Our History

Under the leadership of the late Bishop Ivan Lee Holt and former District Superintendent Dr. Herman E. Luetzow, plans were laid to provide a Methodist Church for families living in the area of Concord Village.

Concord Trinity United Methodist Church began in 1955. Several Methodist families were interested in starting a new church. They had been attending other churches since there was no Methodist church in the area.

On March 9, 1955, they purchased the seven and one-half acre tract of land where our church now stands. They paid $52,000 (now valued at $3,220,000). The property contained two small houses, a barn and clubhouse. One house is still standing and is used by the church caretakers. The clubhouse was originally used for church worship services, and then as Sunday School rooms for the youth until 1984.

Being located in Concord Village, the new church was named "Concord Methodist Church". The District Superintendent arranged for money received from the sale of the inactive Trinity Methodist Church on Tyler Street in St. Louis to be given to Concord, provided the new church include Trinity as part of the name. So our church became Concord Trinity Methodist Church.

During the Spring of 1955, they worked to transform the clubhouse into a sanctuary. Other Methodist churches provided furniture, hymnals and supplies. The people did most of the work by making or bringing things necessary for the church to operate.

In June 1955, C. Thomas Howes, a seminary student, was sent on his summer evangelistic mission to assist and help organize our church. He lived in one of the houses on the property, conducted services, and canvassed the neighborhood for membership in the new church.

The first public worship service at Concord Trinity was held on July 24, 1955. Reverend Howes conducted the service. There were 108 people in attendance.

September 11, 1955 was the official Organizational Sunday. Reverend Harry Corbin was assigned as the first Senior Pastor. There were 124 charter members.

In 1963 a new sanctuary was built. The Education building was added in 1969. The church building was expanded in 1984 to accommodate a larger sanctuary.

In 2005 we completed a major expansion to our campus, adding a large fellowship hall/gymnasium, a new kitchen and parlor, additional youth rooms and classrooms, and more parking.

There are approximately 1050 full members at Concord Trinity United Methodist Church.
