What's Going On With Our Kids?
August 17, 2025
We’re living through a mental health crisis. Kids, teens, and young adults are anxious, overwhelmed, and carrying things they shouldn’t have to carry alone. But in the chaos, Jesus still moves toward us and invites us to bring our pain into His healing presence.
READ
Mark 9:14-29
Jesus asked the scribes, “What are you arguing about?” Someone from the crowd answered him, “Teacher, I brought you my son; he has a spirit that makes him unable to speak, and whenever it seizes him, it dashes him down, and he foams and grinds his teeth and becomes rigid, and I asked your disciples to cast it out, but they could not do so.”
REFLECT
1. In what ways do you see your kids or kids you know facing pressures you didn’t experience growing up?
2. Where in your life or in the life of someone you care about do you see Jesus inviting you to bring pain, fear, or struggle into His healing presence?
3. In what ways can you “move toward” young people in love, even if their struggles feel unfamiliar to you?
RESPOND
1. Create space for real conversation with a child or teen in your life. Ask open-ended questions and listen without rushing to fix or judge.
2. Take a tech break. Choose one time each day or a day each week to set your devices aside and be fully present with people or with God.
3. Ask God to bring to mind someone in a different stage of life than you, pray for them daily and find a simple way to show them they’re not alone.
