The Spirit Who Transforms
May 18, 2025
The Holy Spirit not only moves in power but transforms us into the likeness of Jesus, the character of Christ. The Spirit brings freedom, not freedom to invent and create ourselves in our own likeness but freedom from the bondage of all that hinders us from drawing close to God and becoming like Jesus.
READ
2 Corinthians 3:17-18, Galatians 5:22-23
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And all of us, with unveiled faces, seeing the glory of the Lord as though reflected in a mirror, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another, for this comes from the Lord, the Spirit.
REFLECT
1. How would you describe the difference between external behavior change and Spirit-led transformation?
2. Where do you feel resistance to transformation? Why are you experiencing resistance?
3. What helps you stay open to the Spirit's ongoing work in you?
RESPOND
1.Invite God to reveal to you anything that's resisting transformation – comfort, nostalgia, fear, control, comparison, etc.
2. Instead of trying harder to be godly, spend more time beholding Jesus. The more we see Jesus, the more we become like him. Meditate on one characteristic of Jesus each day – joy, gentleness patience, compassion, power or humility – and allow the Spirit to form it in you.
3. Identify one area of your life that feels stuck or resistant to change (bitterness, addiction, anxiety, etc.) Don't hide it – invite the Spirit in by praying: "I can't change this, but You can. I give you full access."
