The Rest of the Story

April 27, 2025

Peter speaks up during a heated debate to remind everyone of a simple truth: God's grace is for everyone. His challenge is for us today. Is grace is truly enough? Or do we insist on ourselves or others earning God’s approval? As we follow Jesus the story keeps expanding.

READ

Acts 15:7-11

"Why are you putting God to the test by placing on the neck of the disciples a yoke that neither our ancestors nor we have been able to bear? On the contrary, we believe that we will be saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, just as they will."

REFLECT

1. Have you ever been in a position to pave the way or make introduction for someone else? What does it feel like to open a door for someone else?
2. Peter had already experienced powerful moments where God challenged his assumptions about who belongs. Have you ever had a moment when God opened your eyes to your own biases and invited you into a wider of inclusion and welcome for all?
3. Are there modern equivalents to the “circumcision party”—well-meaning traditions that become obstacles to grace?

RESPOND

1. Recognize that it is our tendency to judge someone’s faith by their behavior, background, or spiritual “performance.” Reject the idea of first- and second-class Christians, and choose instead to see everyone as equally beloved in God’s family.
2. Stop trusting in externals. Be honest about the good behaviors or traditions you might lean on to feel “more righteous.” Re-center your faith on grace, not performance.
3. Ask God to show you ways you might be unintentionally placing yokes or burdens on others. Commit to removing obstacles that keep people from experiencing God's love for them.
4. Look for someone who’s been made to feel like an outsider, and take an intentional step to include them, welcome them, or advocate for them.
