Walking On the Storm

March 23, 2025

We all face storms. Some are more difficult than others, but every storm that disrupts our lives also invites us to grow our trust more deeply in Jesus as we follow him. When Peter kept his eyes on Jesus he did not fear the storm. What do you fix your eyes on in the storms of your life?

READ

Mathew 14:22-33

But when Peter noticed the strong wind, he became frightened, and, beginning to sink, he cried out, “Lord, save me!” Jesus immediately reached out his hand and caught him, saying to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?”

REFLECT

1. What is your boat? What represents safety and security to you apart from God? Where in your life is Jesus calling you to step out of your boat to come to him and trust him and follow him fully and courageously?
2. Think of a big life storm you've had to live through. Did it disrupt your life or did it grow you to trust God more deeply?
3. Are there times in your life when you asked God to help you step out of your boat to walk toward him? How have these times shaped the person you are today?

RESPOND

1. Identify your boat by looking at what you’re afraid of losing or leaving behind by taking a risk and living out your faith in Jesus. Ask Jesus to call you to come to him and choose to leave your boat behind.
2. Identify failures both in your life and in your community. Embrace them as opportunity to grow and experience God more closely.
3. The world around us values convenience, comfort and safety, which can lead to personal and social complacency and indifference. Choose to follow Jesus in every aspect of life.
