Belonging Begins With Risk
June 21, 2026
Why do some relationships remain surface-level while others become sources of deep trust and belonging? What keeps us from being fully known by others? This week we explore the risks and rewards of vulnerability, discovering how meaningful relationships are formed and why genuine connection often begins when we move beyond self-protection and choose trust.
READ
Ruth 3:1-9
So Ruth went down to the threshing floor and did just as her mother-in-law had instructed her. When Boaz had eaten and drunk and was in a contented mood, he went to lie down at the end of the heap of grain. Then she came stealthily and uncovered his feet and lay down. At midnight the man was startled and turned over, and there, lying at his feet, was a woman! He said, “Who are you?” And she answered, “I am Ruth, your servant; spread your cloak over your servant, for you are next-of-kin.”
REFLECT
1. Are there any fears or past experiences make it difficult for you to trust others?
2. Why do we build walls to protect ourselves? How can these come down for deeper connection?
3. In what ways does God expand our capacity to love, connect with and delight in people who are different from ourselves?
RESPOND
Identify one small act of vulnerability you can practice. Reach out to someone you've been meaning to connect with, share honestly with a trusted friend, ask for help when you need it, or take a step toward a new relationship or community. Notice how God works with your act of trust to create deeper connection and belonging.
