The Beginning: Created for Relationship

June 15, 2025

Humanity is made not just in God’s image, but by God's breath. The Hebrew word for "breath" also means "spirit"—showing the infusion of God’s essence into humanity. The Spirit's intimacy and presence aren’t new—they’re original. God designed us to live Spirit-aware.

READ

Genesis 1:26-31, Genesis 3:8-9

Adam and Eve heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden at the time of the evening breeze, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. But the Lord God called to the man and said to him, “Where are you?”

REFLECT

1. How does knowing that you carry the breath of God shape your understanding of your worth and purpose?
2. In what areas of your life do you feel like you’re striving to perform for God rather than enjoying being in relationship with God? What does it mean to you that you are created for relationship with God?
3. How do you respond when you feel disconnected from God? How does God’s desire for intimacy and closeness with you challenge your view of God’s proximity?

RESPOND

1. Spend intentional time each day reflecting on God’s intimate creation of you not just for duty but for relationship.
2. Practice recognizing God’s presence in ordinary moments at work, at home, and with others. Invite God into them.
3. Engage in conversations with others about your relationship with God on a regular basis.
