The Prophets: Hearts Made New

July 6, 2025

Through the prophets Isaiah, Ezekiel, and Joel, we hear the heart of a God who desires not just obedience, but intimacy. God promises to give us new hearts, to place His presence within us, and to pour out His Spirit on all people. This isn’t religion as usual—it’s a relationship that changes everything.

READ

Isaiah 59:1-2, Ezekiel 36:26-27, Joel 2:28-29

A new heart I will give you, and a new spirit I will put within you, and I will remove from your body the heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. I will put my spirit within you.

REFLECT

1. In what ways have I allowed my national, political, or cultural identity to influence me and my faith more than my identity in Christ?
2. Is there a place where I need to stop pointing fingers and start opening my heart? How is the Spirit prompting me toward humility, confession, or repair?
3. Do I assume God’s blessing equals success, comfort, or control? Am I wanting "my side to win" or am I willing to be led by the Spirit even when it means weakness or obscurity?

RESPOND

1. Practice your God-given identity by immersing yourself in scripture more than in political or social media.
2. Seek out a conversation with someone outside your usual circles—someone who reflects a different race, class, generation, or background in Christ.
3. Take time alone or with a trusted friend or spiritual mentor to confess places in your life where your heart has grown hard or defensive. Ask the Spirit to reveal where you need healing and change. Then take a small step toward restoration or action.
