Happy When We Don't Lose Heart

February 15, 2026

We’re told happiness depends on comfort, success, and being liked—but what if that’s not where joy actually lives? Jesus speaks of a happiness that endures rejection, opposition, and suffering because it’s anchored in God, not approval from others. Join us as we explore the kind of happiness no circumstance can take away.

READ

Matthew 5:1-12

Blessed are those who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

REFLECT

1. Is your joy held hostage by approval? Where do you notice your joy rising or falling based on how others respond to you?
2. Where are you tempted to interpret difficulty as God’s absence rather than God’s nearness? When life is hard, what do you turn to for stability—control, distraction, or God?
3. What injustice or brokenness are you drawn to engage in healing or reconciling? What does “not losing heart” look like in your everyday influence?

RESPOND

1. Refuse bitterness in real time. If you feel misunderstood, pause before responding and ask: “What would love look like here?” Then respond from that place.
2. Intentionally refuse habitual negativity and fast from complaining. When you catch yourself spiraling into complaint, pivot to a gratitude, prayer, or constructive action
3. Choose acts of consistent faithfulness. Instead of reacting, commit to the sustained practice of good: volunteer regularly, mentor someone, start or support a justice initiative, pray daily for a broken situation.
