A Yes That Changes Everything
December 7, 2025
Mary’s story reminds us that peace doesn’t always come from having clarity—it comes from having courage to say yes to God even when the path ahead is uncertain. Her “yes” opened the door for God’s future to break into the world in a way it never had before, inviting us to trust that God can do more with our willingness than we could ever do with our certainty.
READ
Luke 1:26–38
The angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And now, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you will name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High, and of his kingdom there will be no end.” Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I am a virgin?” The angel said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be holy; he will be called Son of God. For nothing will be impossible with God.” Then Mary said, “Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word.”
REFLECT
1. Where in your life do you feel God inviting you to trust God without having all the answers?
2. How does Mary’s courage challenge the way you think about peace and obedience?
3. What “yes” is God asking of you that would open your life to God's peace and purpose in a new way?
RESPOND
1. Practice a daily "yes" by beginning each morning with a simple prayer: “God, whatever You ask today, my answer is yes.”
2. Identify one place where you’ve been waiting for perfect conditions and take one small step of courage and obedience to God instead.
3. Participate in God’s future by finding a concrete way to say “yes” to your church’s future—through serving, showing up consistently, praying for renewal, or giving in a way that reflects trust in God’s faithfulness.
