The Spirit Leads Us Beyond Ourselves | Courageous Change
May 17, 2026
Change often brings uncertainty, especially when life stretches us beyond what feels familiar or safe. Yet God consistently leads ordinary people into new places, situations, and relationships, gently stretching us beyond what is comfortable so we can participate in something larger than ourselves.
READ
Luke 10:1–9
Jesus said to the disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. Go on your way; I am sending you out like lambs into the midst of wolves. Carry no purse, no bag, no sandals, and greet no one on the road. [...] Whenever you enter a town and its people welcome you, eat what is set before you; cure the sick who are there, and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’
REFLECT
1. What environments, relationships, or routines feel safest to you? What fears tend to surface when you feel stretched beyond what is familiar?
2. Have there been moments when stepping outside your comfort zone helped you grow emotionally, spiritually, or relationally?
3. What does it look like for you and your community to trust that God is present even in unfamiliar spaces?
RESPOND
Spirit of God, empower me to step beyond what feels safe and familiar. Give me courage to follow Your leading into new relationships, communities, and opportunities. Open doors that only You can open, and guide my steps with clarity and boldness. Spirit, break the chains of fear and self-doubt, and fill me with Your energy and vision. Teach me to obey Your call with faith, and to trust that You are working through me to accomplish God’s purposes.
