Jesus and the Church Made New

November 16, 2025

Church can grow dry, divided, or irrelevant. Many have walked away or stayed away, discouraged by empty ritual, conflict, or unmet expectations. Jesus, however, sees His people hungry for God’s presence and ready to be awakened. Renewal is possible when God’s Spirit animates a community with worship, love, and purpose. Together we reimagining church as a worshiping movement, led by God's Spirit, alive with hope and renewal.

READ

Luke 4:16-20

Jesus stood up to read, and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” And he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. The eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him. Then he began to say to them, “Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.”

REFLECT

1. What attitudes, habits, or patterns in your life or church culture need the Spirit’s transformative work to bring new life?
2. How does God’s vision for a Spirit-empowered, renewed church challenge your current expectations of church as a building, program, or institution?
3. How can you contribute to cultivating a church culture where the Spirit’s presence is prioritized and every person is empowered to encounter God and others?

RESPOND

1. Observe areas of your church or community that feel stagnant, dry, or divided. Ask the Spirit for guidance on how to bring fresh life, connection, and encouragement.
2. Engage in service, leadership, and hospitality that align with God’s vision for a renewed, Spirit-filled church. Be intentional about including and empowering others.
3. Take time to notice and affirm moments where God is clearly moving—transforming relationships, bringing healing, or restoring hope—and share these stories with others.
