The Habit of Cultivating Supportive Relationships
January 26, 2025
Even Jesus, who walked in perfect intimacy with God, who lived in constant awareness of God's presence and company with him, not only sought but prioritized cultivating supportive relationships.
READ
Hebrews 10:24-25
Let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another.
REFLECT
1. Name the special people in your life who are a blessing to you because of their capacity to suffer well. What are you doing to nurture and cultivate these special relationships?
2. Who in your life needs you to offer a supportive relationship? How can you love them more deeply?
3. What is significant about each of the four characteristics of supportive relationships?
RESPOND
• Take a moment to be alone with God throughout your day. Put your hands on your knees, palms down.
• What has caused you deep pain?
• When the suffering comes to mind, imagine laying it on a table, God’s table.
• Turn your hands palms up in a posture of choosing to give God your full attention.
• Ask God to bring to mind someone to cultivate a supportive relationship with this year. Pray, “Lord of love, help us.”
